Second Chances

The gang stood around Jeremy, who was at the terminal. The moment they'd been waiting for for more than 2 years had arrived. They had finally defeated X.A.N.A. As Jeremy was about to shut down the computer, Odd piped up, "Einstein, why don't we just turn it off downstairs with that fancy switch?" Jeremy rolled his eyes and repeated, "Ugh, for the last time, Odd: Doing it from the booth will ensure that all the files Aelita and I have created will remain uncorrupted." Jeremy was out of his chair now. "Besides, the shutdown program is already-" He never finished the sentence. As he spoke, a bolt of lightning had shot out of the computer and planted itself in his chest. "Jeremy!" Everyone shouted at once. Aelita flitted over and kneeled next to him, cradling his head in her arms. Ulrich checked his pulse. "It's faint...but it is there," he concluded, "He is going to die if we can't get him to the E.R. in time." Aelita turned pale. She was staring at the monitor, where the hated X.A.N.A. symbol was proudly displayed. To her relief, it seemed to dwindle and die, for good. "Some last booby trap X.A.N.A. left us," she groaned, half to herself. Then to the others: "There is no time to get him to the hospital!" She started sobbing. "If only we had a second chance!" Odd said. As if she had been pricked with a cattle prod, Aelita straightened up quickly. Odd only had time to breath out a "D'oh!" and facepalm for their collective stupidity before Aelita had started the return to the past. As she said the words "Return to the past!" her voice caught, and then she held her breath.
The flash stunned them all as they returned to their positions they held a few minutes ago. Jeremy was alright, if a bit dazed (You try coming back from the brink of death in an instant and see how YOU  feel.) Aelita ran up and hugged him. Jeremy slurred out, "Guys, I think it would be smarter to turn it off manually." Then he slumped to the ground. Soon the computer was off, and X.A.N.A. defeated for real this time (At least until evolution. Sorry, guys!) As the walked across the bridge, each in their own silent reminisce, Jeremy was still walking a bit wobbly, and lagged behind like a bad server. Aelita slowed down so she could catch him if he fell. Jeremy turned and stared at her. "Aelita," he started, "when that bolt hit me, my life flashed before my eyes. Pardon the cliche, but it is true. Strangely, the big events weren't the ones to come into focus. You know, finding the computer, meeting you, your first night on Earth- the list goes on. Instead, it focused on the little things. Sharing a crescent roll. The stars at night. Just being with you.'s amazing that we can blunder on through life, completely oblivious to the beauty that surrounds us. We walk in beauty. And we never realize that until we die. I'm just glad I got a second chance." However epic this mini speech was, it was too philosophical for Aelita. So she quickly leaned in and pecked him on the cheek, freezing him for the next half hour.
Just a quick story. A few weeks after I roughed this one, I studied Our Town in school.

Anyway here's the new plan: A story or submission every week until thanksgiving, at which point I will work like mad to get a Code Lyoko Christmas story out, as well as a prologue for my first longer story.
